As the world’s largest Airbnb host management service, Houst has managed over 500,000 bookings and we’ve found the incident rate surprisingly low. We attribute this to our guest vetting process and database of guests we’ve built up for additional checking should a guest we’ve had trouble try to book again.
But the reality is that sometimes incidents do happen – whether by accident or uncareful behaviour – so it’s important to have insurance in place. Fortunately, Airbnb has an outstanding policy to protect all hosts and every booking made. For bookings on other platforms, Houst recommends GuardDog in the UK.
Let’s take a look at what Airbnb’s own insurance provides.

FAQs on using aircover
What is AirCover for Hosts?
AirCover for Hosts is top-to-bottom protection for Hosts. It includes $1m Host liability insurance, $1m Experiences liability insurance, and $1m Host damage protection, with new coverage for pet damage, deep cleaning, and more.
What’s the difference between damage protection and liability insurance?
Host damage protection covers you if your place or belongings ever get damaged by a guest during an Airbnb stay. Host liability insurance applies in the rare event that a guest gets hurt during an Airbnb stay or Experience.
How does AirCover for Hosts work with my personal insurance?
Although AirCover for Hosts protects you while you’re hosting an Airbnb stay or Experience, it is not a substitute for personal insurance. Since everyone’s situation is different, you should talk to your insurer to see how or if your policy overlaps with AirCover for Hosts.
Are there damages that AirCover for Hosts doesn’t cover?
AirCover for Hosts doesn’t cover normal wear and tear or losses incurred due to acts of nature (such as earthquakes and hurricanes). You can find a complete list here.
Does Airbnb protect guests too?
Yes – guests are also protected by AirCover – included free with every booking. It helps with getting rebooked or refunded if there’s a significant issue with their stay.
Airbnb’s AirCover for Guests includes:
Booking Protection Guarantee
In the unlikely event you (the Host) need to cancel a booking within 30 days of the guest’s check-in data, Airbnb will find the guest a similar or better home or refund them.
Check-In Guarantee
If the guest can’t check-in to the property (because of a lockbox issue for example) and the Host cannot resolve the issue, Airbnb will find them a similar or better home for the length of their original stay or refund them.
Get-What-You-Booked Guarantee
If at any time during your stay you find your listing isn't as advertised – for example, the fridge stops working and your Host can’t easily fix it, or it has fewer bedrooms than listed – you'll have three days to report it and we’ll find you a similar or better home or we’ll refund you.
24-hour Safety Line
If you ever feel unsafe, you’ll get priority access to specially trained safety agents, day or night.
